Milk of the Murder Hornet – Peach | Hubbard’s Cave

I can’t believe I have a favorite milkshake IPA. Heck, I also have a favorite milkshake IPA series. (For those wondering, Hop Butcher’s Blazed Orange Milkshake (BOM) and Maplewood’s Mr. Shakey series, respectively.) I don’t really go crazy for the newest milkshake IPA release or even think to order one when I’m at a brewery. I’d sooner go with a West Coast IPA or something light, I guess. So it was divine providence that I even got to try Hubbard’s Cave Milk of the Murder Hornet.

Plasma Wave: Berry Rainbow | Brothership Brewing

Ah, childhood. Some of us have fond memories of our childhood, usually focusing on the things we did or experienced. One of the more fond memories for some (read: brewers) focus on things that we ate or, in some cases, still eat. This trend started simply enough with things like Hunahpu’s Imperial Stout from Cigar City, Abraxas from Perennial, and Proprietor’s 2013 from Goose Island. Soon enough things shifted from making beer taste like that food or candy to just simply adding it to the beer. And so we land on Brothership Brewing Plasma Wave.

Honour | More Brewing

Join me, if you will, on a trip a decade prior. Before items in the bakery aisle started appearing in beer. When, in a sign of things to come, the highest rated beer was Trappist Westvleteren 12, a Belgian Quadruple one could only get at the monastery. A beer slowly climbed up the ratings, eventually eclipsing Westy 12. I found this out at a bottle share after generously being offered this beer by Beer Me Fitz. That beer was, of course, Heady Topper by The Alchemist and it would eventually lead to a new style of beer – the hazy IPA. Oft imitated years ago, few breweries release Heady Topper-like beers nowadays. More Brewing, however, has decided to give it a go with their recent release of Honour.

I think it was Spring Training 2020, before the pandemic closed everything and changed the way we live. I was preparing for what I thought would be a full season of fantasy baseball, figuring out who to draft and where. The White Sox’s lineup started coming together and was tagged as being one of the better one in baseball. The White Sox had signed Yasmani Grandal over the winter and still had 2019 All-Star James McCann on the roster to back him up or split starts with.
